It has background information about the topic, coloring pages, worksheets and printables, thematic reading list- kid’s books, back to school supply lists, printable short stories, and fun activities. This website had so much useful and intriguing resources I wanted to begin planning for this lesson right away just so I could use all the fun and exciting things it had to offer!

It has clickables for early readers to learn about different careers in the ‘Career Club.’ When you click on this individual job icon, you can read about and see pictures of that worker’s occupation. Along with the reading, there is a sound icon that you can click on and will read it out loud. This website is good to use when beginning lessons about individual careers.
Mr. Nussbaum http://www.mrnussbaum.com/newscity2.htm Mr. Nussbaum is a fun website that educates through games. It has language arts, social studies, science, and math games. You can basically find any kind of subject you need on this sight and these games are ones that students will not want to stop (I didn’t want to!). I found this pizza delivery game where you are the delivery person and you see a map with street names and where your car is. You must maneuver your car with the east, west, north, south, and stop buttons in order to find the house to make the delivery at. There are traffic lights that turn red and green which you can’t run or you will get fined. I really liked this game for students because it teaches them certain skills needed for the real world.

Summary: This insightful book shares with readers 50 different career choices that could possibly suit them one day. It has awesome pictures and engaging information for students to find out the job requirements and responsibilities for that particular career.
Title: Community Helpers from A to Z
Author: Bobie Kalman, Niki Walker
Summary: This book has great information about different careers A to Z. It teaches children, through the help of the great pictures, about the many different jobs that are available and that people in their own community do.
Title: A Job for Wittilda

Summary: This story is about a witch named Wittilda. She has 47 cats and needs to find a job in order to pay for food and other essential care necessities. She gets a job as a pizza delivery person and uses her broom to deliver the pies quickly. After finding a stray cat, she is faced with a decision that could cost her her job.

As the anti-dog rhetoric escalates, Ike is compelled to join the political fray and run for mayor himself. This book is a fun way to introduce what a mayor is and what different duties they have to complete to make sure the community works together and runs smoothly. City Green by Dyanne DiSalvo-Ryan
This visit to Marcy's city neighborhood will inspire both urban dwellers and their rural counterparts with the positive message that kids can make wonderful things happen if they put their minds to it. When the house across the street is demolished, Marcy feels that her block looks like "a big smile with one tooth missing." The empty lot fills with junk, and makes Marcy sadder every time she looks at it. Then one spring day, Marcy and her neighbor, Miss Rosa, get an idea: instead of planting a garden in coffee cans like they usually do, why not plant it in that empty lot? Together with other neighbors, they lease the spot from the city (at a cost of one dollar) and work to make it bloom. Community spirit is infectious, and soon the whole block is helping. Even crotchety Old Man Hammer sneaks in at night and secretly plants some seeds. By summer, the garden is blooming with life, including a group of magnificent sunflowers that remain a mystery to everyone but Marcy and the old man.
